31 Days of Bible Affirmations

31 Days of Bible Affirmations

I have been working through a mentoring course this year, which is run by Jo Naughton. It is designed to find out what God’s purposes are for us, to grow in our gifts and to develop a character that would help us to carry out our calling. Each week we focus on a certain aspect to help towards this.

I can honestly say that this has helped me tremendously in being able to move forward in what I feel God is calling me to do. I have noticed a big change as I have been working through some hard topics. As a result, it is a change that has been a massive step forward in my faith and my healing.

However, even though I have moved forward in my faith, there are certain aspects I still get stuck on. Mainly how I perceive myself and what I feel God and others think about me. I often wonder if my outlook on how I see myself would be different if I hadn’t suffered the abuse I did.

I want to change that.

There is a day I long for when I can stand in front of a mirror and say to the person looking back, “I love you for who you are and what you have become”.  I think a lot of it has to do with the mindset. My mind has been so use to thinking I am not good enough due to what I endured as a child, that it doesn’t know how to think positively.

I have been reading a book called Seven Ways to Pray by Amy Boucher Pye over the summer. I highly recommend grabbing yourself a copy if you want to draw closer to God.

In her first chapter, she writes about how we can meet God in a tangible way as we pray with the Bible.

“God always makes himself known to us, and a primary way he reveals himself is through his Word. When we pray with the Bible, God infuses the experience with his Spirit.”

P11, Seven Ways to Pray, Amy Boucher Pye.

Throughout her book, Amy gives prayer practices to help us incorporate into our prayer life different ways of praying. One of her suggestions is to personalise scripture by re-writing a Bible verse into our own words. Personalising scripture by including our own name helps us to bring the verse to life more. As a result, we realise God is actually speaking to us directly through His word.

31 Days of Bible Affirmations

Affirmations are positive statements which are repeatedly spoken to ourselves with confidence. The hope is that this will change some aspect of ourselves or our life. In using Amy’s suggestion of re-writing scripture, I want to set myself a challenge! I am going to develop Bible based affirmations about how God sees me and what His heart is for me. Hopefully, by declaring Bible based truths over myself it will begin to shift a mindset I have in how I perceive myself.

I am doing this over the next 30 days and will (try) and focus on a Bible reading each day. You can join me in this journey too by changing my name to include your name. Make this personal to you as I am doing with myself by. I may be writing to initially help myself but I hope that it will help you too.

Maybe you could help me too? Do you know a Bible verse which you feel could be used to help affirm how God sees us? Send me a comment. Consequently, I will try and adapt it to include it in the next 31 days.

    A songster song says:

You are loved, you are loved,
Child of God don’t you know you are loved?
God sent His Son, His precious one
To show you, child that you are loved.

    God bless
