I am Significant

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.  Matthew 10:29-31

I often lose sight of how significant I am to God. When I look at other people, I can see how much they are worth. Yet when I look at myself, I struggle to see what significant impact I can have on those around me. It’s like I get stuck in this pit of low self-worth and I don’t see what value I can bring.

When I feel like this, I like to take myself outside and walk around my estate. There is nothing like being in God’s creation to centre yourself back to where you need to be. With an open mind it can be refreshing what you can experience around you.

My head turns towards the sun and I look up to feel the sun shining down on my face.

I hear the birds singing their tune without a care in the world.

The flowers remind me of how beautiful God makes them.

I feel the wind brushing past me as though God is with me right in that moment.

When I focus on what God has made I am reminded of how they play a significant part in this world and God takes care of each of them. I think especially of the birds and I am reminded of today’s Bible reading. If God values and cares for his creatures, then surely He thinks the same way of myself. His plans for me are far greater than what He plans for those birds! We are more important to God than we could ever comprehend.

Something to think about…

Why not have a go at personalising Matthew 10:29-31 and re-write in your own words what you feel God is saying to you. You could also use my version and change to your own name. 

Lynne, you have no idea how much you are worth. I created everything in this world and I care about everything that goes on, I even care about the lowliest of animals like a sparrow. If one of my birds were to fall to the ground, this would deeply hurt me. If I care about my creatures in this way, then surely you are worth more than this. Remember this when you doubt your worth: I know everything about you right down to the hairs on your head and I love and care very deeply for you. You matter.
