I am Accepted
to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
Ephesians 1:6

A child longs to feel accepted by those around them, especially by family and close friends. Children crave their parents attention to know they are doing well. When a child lacks the security they need, they carry the fear of rejection later on in life.

When we carry this fear of not being accepted as adults we start to look for it in other places. We still need that reassurance as adults that we are fully accepted, just as ourselves.

Accepted no matter what we have been through in our past.
Accepted even when our lives are in a mess.

I forget sometimes that I don’t need to turn to anyone else when I feel rejected. I am accepted by the One who matters. God. He is the one that can fill the void when I feel unworthy. He loves and accepts us just as we are.

Something to think about…

Why not have a go at personalising Ephesians 1:6 and re-write in your own words what you feel God is saying to you. You could also use my version and change to your own name.

Lynne, I have abounding grace. So much that I freely give it to you. Why? Because I love you and I accept you. No questions asked.

I Am Brave

‘When survivors dare to go first and tell their stories, they empower others to tell their stories, which then opens more doors for healing and justice.’

We Too, Mary DeMuth

Seeing the courage Mary DeMuth had taken to tell her story in her book “We Too”, it empowered me to start telling mine. In turn, I hope my story empowers others to tell their story too.

The more people tell their stories, the more others will have to listen. When people listen, healing takes place. When people listen, hopefully justice follows too.

I look at my twins, at age 2, and I worry for their life and what they may face. I see my other daughters, at age 11 and 12, and remember the little girl I was. What I had experienced by the time I was their age takes my breath away. No child should succumb to someone else’s sexual pleasure. Ever.

For me to be able to tell my story like this requires me to be brave on a level I have not been before. It’s not easy when we release our stories into the wide open spaces. I need to remember to keep hold of the strength that can be provided by God. Only then can I be brave enough to share.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

Lynne, do not be afraid for I am by your side. I am your God and you do not need to be scared. I will provide you with the strength you need and I will be here to help you. Lynne, you will no longer feel invalidated because I am here to encourage you and lift you up. You are not alone. You are brave.

31 Days Of Bible Affirmations – Day 5 – I Am Unique

I am Unique

I will offer You my grateful heart, for I am Your unique creation, filled with wonder and awe.
    You have approached even the smallest details with excellence;
    Your works are wonderful;
I carry this knowledge deep within my soul.
Psalm 139:14

In my previous post I wrote about how I felt I wasn’t good at anything when I were younger. A lot of how I felt about myself was due to the bullying I experienced throughout my school life. As a result of this, growing up I felt like the odd one out. I didn’t fit in.

Satan loves to use these negative feelings I have about myself in order for me to forget how wonderfully unique I am. After all, if I am beating myself up, I’m not working for God’s kingdom. Satan loves that and will exploit it whenever he can using whatever and whoever.

In order for me to overcome these thoughts and feelings, I need to stand strong on what God says about me. I need to believe what the Psalmist says: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. It’s not easy trying to change my thinking, but I am a work in progress.

Lynne, I want you to know deep within your heart that I created you so uniquely. You are wonderfully made. Even the parts you don’t feel good about. Let this truth sink deep inside you.

31 Days of Bible Affirmations – Day 4 – I Am Gifted

I Am Gifted
In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.
Romans 12:6 (NLT)

Growing up, I didn’t feel like I was good at anything. I was always striving to achieve the best, but what I had was never recognised. Anything I did, didn’t seem to be good enough. I took part in plenty of activities, but I didn’t feel gifted in any of them.

I compared myself with other people a lot. Their standards were something I could never reach. What I didn’t realise was, I was playing this comparison game. And I was losing. As a result, this game I was playing didn’t help me to reach my full potential.

I needed to let go of this idea that everything had to be perfect. The expectations I have placed on myself, and what others expected too, has to be broken down. (I say has instead of had because I’m still working on this). God has given each of us a special gift. Furthermore, He longs to see us reach the potential we all have.

The good thing about God is the amount of grace He gives us. He doesn’t expect perfection. However, what He does expect is for us to reach our potential in the gifts He has gifted us.

Why not have a go at personalising Romans 12:6 and re-write in your own words what you feel God is saying to you. You could also use my version and change to your own name.

Lynne, God has given you a gift that is unique to you. With the help of His grace, He wants you to use that gift to do what you are called to do well.

31 Days of Bible Affirmations- Day 3 – I Am Chosen

I Am Chosen

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
1 Peter 2:9

I knew I had a purpose in life, but I wasn’t sure what God had chosen me for. When I felt God ask me ‘Will you use your past to help others have a future?’ I immediately said yes. I didn’t realise though what would be involved, or how long it would take for God’s dream to come to fruition. This was 5 1/2 years ago.

When I said yes to God’s question, I was hoping God would hand me my ministry on a plate. I expected Him to say, “Here you go. This is what I have chosen you to do and this is how you do it”. However, God doesn’t work like this. If God’s purpose in life is to happen, then guaranteed there will be some work to be done. Oh, and a few hard lessons along the way.

Being chosen comes with a price

I have learnt that doing God’s work comes with a price. When personal information about ourselves is shared, we have to be careful how our heart is guarded. If we are not rooted deep in God, we become tangled up in the lies that is fed by the enemy. I learnt this the hard way and I couldn’t cope with the thought of people knowing what happened in my past.

Shame became my closest friend for a while. I had to learn over the years to lean on God and the truth He wanted me to know. I needed to experience His love on a personal level. A love which accepts me for who I am no matter what I have been through.

This is what I want everyone to know. It’s what I feel God has chosen me to do. To bring hope to people who have been through similar experiences to me. I have experienced dark times throughout my life, but when I cling on to the Truth that is God, he brings me out of the darkness into His marvellous light.

Why not have a go at personalising 1 Peter 2:9 and re-write in your own words what you feel God is saying to you. You could also use my version and change to your own name.

Lynne, I have chosen you and set you apart from anyone else. I have brought you out of darkness and into my light. Tell everyone of what I have done for you.
