Day 6 – Longing to Belong?

When I was about 16 I decided to put my church to “the test”. I was at the age where I wanted something different. I was young and wanted to be known and used in some way with my faith. I felt a lot of people looked down on me because of my age and who I was.

It’s the age that is kind of make or break with a lot of teenagers. You were either looked upon for not doing enough, but then not given the chance to do anything. I felt alone and isolated and I wanted to be my own person and not in the shadow of my parents.

I just wanted to belong.

I decided to stand to one side one Sunday…out of the way…inconspicuous. I wanted to see how many people would take notice of me. Very few did. In fact, not one person came up and welcomed me. It was probably because I was the daughter of the person behind the pulpit. Welcome my parents and that includes the whole family.

I decided from that day to move to another church. A place where I could be accepted for myself. A place to belong. Sure enough, I was welcomed with open arms and I, along with others of my age, were given opportunities to shine.

It shouldn’t really matter who we are and where we go. Whether we are young or old, black or white, male or female. We are all one in Jesus Christ. We all belong.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 8:28

Day 5 – Sharing is Caring

Sharing is an act of kindness where something that belongs to you is given to someone else because you think they need it as well.

Caring is when you show concern for someone else . At the same time you are tending to their needs. So, when you share something with someone, you are tending to their needs and showing them you care about them.

Day 4 – Why?

Today is National Poetry Day, so I thought I would write something different for my Write 31 Day Challenge.

When life doesn’t go the way I planned,

I try to make sense and understand.

Why is it I’ve been dealt a bad hand?

When life goes down a different path,

I’m now left with the aftermath.

Why is it I feel it’s your wrath?

When life doesn’t turn out quite right,

And I feel like I’ve lost the fight.

Why is it you don’t hear my plight?

When life seems to pass me by,

Problems seem to intensify.

Why can’t you hear my cry?

When life feels like a heavy load,

My mind is going to explode.

Why can’t you help me unload?

Day 3 – Believe in Yourself

I think we all, at some point in our lives, struggle with believing in ourselves. It may be believing we can pass a test, or not. Maybe it’s playing a solo in a concert you have worked up for absolutely ages. Maybe you struggle to believe you are a good parent, or that you are good at your job.

For a long time, I didn’t believe in myself very well. I kept comparing myself to other people thinking they could do a better job than me…at anything! This sounds like I don’t have a problem anymore, doesn’t it?

Actually, if I’m being honest, I still do have a problem with believing in myself.  However, I believe in myself more than what I use to. This doesn’t mean I’m not going to fail at anything, because believe me, I will.

That’s ok though.

I believe that God has put gifts and talents and ability on the inside of every one of us. When you develop that and you believe in yourself and you believe that you’re a person of influence and a person of purpose, I believe you can rise up out of any situation. Joel Osteen

The only way we are able to develop what we have is to keep on trying…even when we fail! I never thought I would hear myself say this, but failing at something is good. It means we get to learn something and get better at it. And when we do get better at it, it helps to remove the unwanted self doubt and gives us the sense of belief in ourselves that we need.

Do you see the positive cycle starting to develop?

Fail at something

👇

study what you failed

👇

try it again (maybe even practice)

👇

make more mistakes

👇

learn some more!

Each time this cycle goes round and round, and you start getting better and better.

Believe in yourself!

Day 2 – Don’t Be Afraid

This takes a lot to admit this, but right now in my current situation, I am afraid. I am down right scared of what the future holds. It’s like I’m walking through a thick, dense forrest and I can’t see a way through to the other side.
