Day 10 – Are you in a how situation?

The lyrics to John Lenon’s song “How?” Will probably resonate to millions of people around the world. Although it was released in 1971, it is very much relevant today.

How can I go forward when I don’t know which way I’m facing

How can I go forward when I don’t know which way to turn

How can I go forward into something I’m not sure of

Oh no, oh no

How can I have feeling when I don’t know if it’s a feeling

How can I feel something if I just don’t know how to feel

How can I have feelings when my feelings have always been denied

Oh no, oh no

You know life can be long

And you got to be so strong

And the world is so tough

Sometimes I feel I’ve had enough

How can I give love when I don’t know what it is I’m giving

How can I give love when I just don’t know how to give

How can I give love when love is something I ain’t never had

Oh no, oh no

You know life can be long

You’ve got to be so strong

And the world she is tough

Sometimes I feel I’ve had enough

How can we go forward when we don’t know which way we’re facing

How can we go forward when we don’t know which way to turn

How can we go forward into something we’re not sure of

Oh no, oh no

If only John Lennon knew the answer to all of his ‘hows’. The only answer I can give is God.

God knows which way you are facing.

God knows which way you can turn.

God knows how you can go forward.

God can give you love.

God knows what you are feeling and He is there when you have had enough.

When you feel like you are in a ‘how’ situation, turn to God for the answer.

Day 8 – God Provides Comfort in Times of Need

The habit of thumb sucking is seen as quite innocent up until a certain age. After this, it is then seen as a sign of insecurity. Children suck their thumb to give them comfort.

Day 7 – Never Lose Hope

I love the word, ‘hope’. Why? Because when you feel you have nothing left to cling onto, there is always hope.

Never lose hope.

Hope brings a positive expectation and a new confidence.

Wherever my story takes me, however dark and difficult the theme, there is always some hope and redemption, not because readers like happy endings, but because I am an optimist at heart. I know the sun will rise in the morning, that there is a light at the end of every tunnel. Michael Morpurgo

Hope

Hope is hanging on when times are tough,

Hope is finding good from something rough.

Hope is a little light when you’ve had enough,

Hope is what I need to get through stuff.

Hope is holding on to something real,

Hope is something that I want to feel.

Hope is what I need to help me heal,

Hope is what I need to break the seal.

Hope is what carries me along the way,

Hope helps me face the coming day.

Hope keeps hindering thoughts at bay,

Hope is what I need to help my past lay.

Day 6 – Longing to Belong?

When I was about 16 I decided to put my church to “the test”. I was at the age where I wanted something different. I was young and wanted to be known and used in some way with my faith. I felt a lot of people looked down on me because of my age and who I was.

It’s the age that is kind of make or break with a lot of teenagers. You were either looked upon for not doing enough, but then not given the chance to do anything. I felt alone and isolated and I wanted to be my own person and not in the shadow of my parents.

I just wanted to belong.

I decided to stand to one side one Sunday…out of the way…inconspicuous. I wanted to see how many people would take notice of me. Very few did. In fact, not one person came up and welcomed me. It was probably because I was the daughter of the person behind the pulpit. Welcome my parents and that includes the whole family.

I decided from that day to move to another church. A place where I could be accepted for myself. A place to belong. Sure enough, I was welcomed with open arms and I, along with others of my age, were given opportunities to shine.

It shouldn’t really matter who we are and where we go. Whether we are young or old, black or white, male or female. We are all one in Jesus Christ. We all belong.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 8:28
