Here we are again for another Five Minute Friday, where a number of writers gather for a weekly writing challenge around a single word prompt and write to our hearts content, but only for five minutes (or there abouts).
This weeks word prompt is ‘provide’. Click here if you want to see what other people wrote. You can also have a go yourself. What do you think of when you hear the word ‘provide’?
He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.
Isaiah 40:29
When you pray to God for something, what do you ask for? What would you like God to provide for you? I often pray to God for strength.
Strength to get through the day.
Strength to face the challenges that lie ahead.
Strength to get out of bed in the morning.
Strength to cope with the children when I feel weary.
Strength to battle on when I feel all is lost.
Sometimes I feel like I don’t get an answer though.
Or do I?
Maybe the answer God provides me with is something that I least expect. This is when God reminds me that when He does answer, and when He does provide, He does it how He wants to do it and not how I want it.
Ouch!
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
2 Corinthians 12:9
It’s not about me at the end of the day. It’s all about Him and how I need to rely on Him. The days when I pray for strength, He reminds me over and over again that He will provide me with exactly what I need – not what I want.
I want strength to get me through the next situation. I have found though that if He gives me that, I probably won’t rely on Him so much. I wouldn’t be turning to Him in those times on bended knee pouring out my soul to Him.
What I actually need is to fully rely on God to provide exactly what is required in the moments when I despair. God is not some super quick-fix to get me through. God will not provide me with strength I need, He is my strength!
God is not some super quick-fix to get me through. Share on XBe strong and bold; have no fear or dread of them, because it is the Lord your God who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.
Deuteronomy 31:6-8
Visiting you from #45! I had a coworker who would always say, “Never pray for patience, because God will just throw opportunities at you to practice it.” But that is what God does. He provides opportunities for us to learn and practice what He calls us to do. He has already given us everything we need for life and godliness (the Holy Spirit), according to 2 Peter 1:3, but we have to put it into practice. We are all in this race together, keep pushing on!
I always say that too about patience, so I joke with people about not praying it for me. I agree that the opportunities He provides us with will make us stronger for another day. Thank you for visiting Katy.
This: “Maybe the answer God provides me with is something that I least expect.”. . .enough said. Thank you . . .{found you on FMF}
Yes! Amen to that Cornelia! Thank you for stopping by.
Loved your thesis that God wasn’t interested in short-term or quick fixes about more about the long term relationship. And how ultimately, it isn’t about getting through the day but rather making a lifetime. Great job #FMF
Thank you so much for stopping by. It warmed my heart to read your lovely comment.
