God will take what we have to offer, even if it’s broken

When we look at our lives and consider what we have been through, we often wonder if we are able to offer anything of worth. Would God really take my shame and use it for His name?

Yes, He will!

God will receive every part of our lives if we offer it to him. Even the broken bits we feel cannot be used. He will take those broken pieces and make it whole again. Maybe not in the same way it was before. God is so amazing that He can take hold of anything and turn it into whatever He wants.

An amazing example of this was when Jesus healed a man who was blind at birth. People thought some awful sin must have happened either in the blind man’s life, or prior to him, for him to be born blind.

John 9:3: “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”

Have you heard of the phrase, “shit happens”? Well, it does! We can find ourselves in “shit” circumstances all the time. Ok, so as a Christian I probably shouldn’t say this word. But to be honest, when something crap happens we all think it, don’t we? God knows we do, so there is no point in covering it up. (You can still smell it anyway even if you can’t see it!)

Anyway, why would we want to go back to how things were, before our “shit” happened, when God has the ability to make us new? He may not physically take our inequities away from us, or restore our sight, but He can open our eyes to a whole new world where it doesn’t matter who we are or what we have been through.

God will use us, no matter what, to proclaim His glory. The shameful story we have in our lives may just be the story someone needs to help piece things together. If you feel your life is a mess, don’t worry! God will clean it right up and He can turn our messes into His messages.

Isaiah 48:10: See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.

This was written for the Five Minute Friday Community, where a number of writers gather for a weekly writing challenge around a single word prompt and write to our hearts content, but only for five minutes (or there abouts).

This weeks word prompt is ‘offer’. Click here if you want to see what other people wrote. You can also have a go yourself. What do you think of when you hear the word ‘offer ’?

  1. I love your candid truth. I love our God. He loves us with an overwhelming amazing love that absolutely can restore us with His grace. His story in our lives is compelling, raw and real and frankly stories with twists and turns are my favorite. Have a beautiful weekend Lynne! Visiting from FMF. 🙂
